Fanime Gift Art, BAAU Various

During the BAAU dinner at Tandoori Kitchen on Saturday evening, I whipped out my sketchbook and passed it around. I didn’t have much time after dinner, so I only got a few contributions, but I’m quite happy with them :)

The first one is a lovely sci-fi work by fellow BAAU member MechaPC.

Hannah, who in addition to being a great artist is also a great violin player, contributed the drawing of the girl in the middle.

The last picture is yet another charming contribution by Naomi Barbour, who artfully personified the sudden rainstorm that drenched San Jose as BAAU members trudged over to the restaurant.

This Week…

Hi all!

For those of you who came to visit my booth at Fanime this year, welcome and thanks for dropping by my AA booth and my virtual booth!

This week, I’ll be posting wonderful sketches and gift artwork I got from friends this year. I feel a bit ashamed because all I really drew for others this year were pictures of my Star Fruit characters, hardly venturing outside my comfort zone. It’s been a long while and I am rusty, but I hope to change that and increase my artistic abilities over the next couple of months so I can redeem myself next year!

I may also, in the near future, openly contemplate an ever growing set of tips and rules-of-thumb for attaining success at the Artist Alley. This is mainly geared towards capturing my personal lessons-learned, rather than for the sake of being pedantic; but those of you who are intending to do the AA thing in the future may find the discussion useful (and of course, your dialogue is more than welcome). I’ve found that each year I re-learn very simple concepts for having a successful booth, but always too late into the game; if I don’t write these down, I will forget them in time for the next year. It’s time to break the chain of reinventing the wheel!

Guys! Guys!

Don’t forget! I’ll be at FanimeCon in San Jose, CA tomorrow and Saturday. I’ll be sitting at the BAAU block, Table 249, selling the brand new BAAU Down Vol. 10 and some leftover wares (Star Fruit ashcans, Hamthology Vol. 2). I’ll also be doing commissions – I hope to draw a lot! So if you’re coming by, please be sure to visit my table!

Here’s the map put together by Alfred!

Back in business!

Hi and welcome (back) to the new and improved Studio Constancy Roman website! I’m pleased to say that after 3 years of dormancy, this site is back in business and brought into the 21st century to boot! We’re kicking off our new blog with a brand new edition of the Star Fruit Universe; this story line will be updating M-W-F for the next 7 weeks. After that, who knows? Hopefully I can keep things interesting for you guys.

Do be sure to let me know what you think of the website, especially questions, and suggestions for improvements. I’m still getting used to all this crazy fancy blogging stuff that they didn’t have back when I was your age (okay, they did), so I’m bound to have some wacky uncaught mistakes somewhere..but I think I am getting the hang of it, and I’m happy with how the site turned out.

Yes, so it’s been actually about three and a half years since I’ve drawn my own comic…What have I been doing this whole time? Surprisingly, I have been working on comics, but not in the sense of drawing, but writing, and a whole freaking lot of it. Hopefully you’ll get to see the fruits of my labor in the not-to-distant future, but in the meantime, this blog will be the home to short stories, one-shots, artwork and the like. So please subscribe and tell your friends!

What else? Oh yeah, I’ll be making my first convention appearance in 2 years! I’ll be joining the BAAU folks at FanimeCon in San Jose CA this coming Memorial Day weekend, and helping to sell their newest anthology, BAAU Down 10, at their Artist’s Alley block. It’s my first time contributing for BAAU, but with the big decennial celebration (yes, I had to look that word up) how could I not resist? “Main Plant” is in fact one of the many stories in BAAU Down 10 (and much thanks to Alfred and the rest of the gang for giving me the permission to post it online!). So, if you’re in the area, come by and say hi!
